A

  • Acceptance Number : Highest rate of defect products of a sample from a manufacturing process can have in order to pass an inspection with success.
  • Acceptance Sample : Number of unit, batch and sample size tested, defined by statistical measure in order to represent a whole production.

  •  Batch : In Quality Inspection vocabulary designate the quantity of units produced.

  • Container Loading Inspection : Supervision of category and quantities of goods loaded,  and conditions of shipment.
  • Cargo Transportation Inspection : Supervision of products condition of carriage, and transfert from truck to ship.
  • Continuous Sampling Plan : In acceptance sampling, a plan, intended for application to a continuous flow of individual units of product.
  • Cost of Poor Quality : Costs that would be deleted if systems, processes, and products were perfect
  • Cost of Quality : Costs of all activities designed to prevent poor quality in products or services
  • Corporate Social Responsibility : Form of Corporate self regulation integrated into a business model,  and ensures its active compliance with the spirit of the law, ethical standards and international norms.

  • Defects & Defective : imperfection or lack that causes inadequacy or failure in a given product
  • Defect per hundred units : Mesure of defective products reported to 100 calculated using the following formula (Number of defective product) x 100 / (Number of units inspected)
  • Double Sampling Plan : Give a not conclusive lot another chance, by inspecting second lot based on the same requirement.
  • Drawing of Samples : Establishment of sample requirement and methods regarding a production.
  • During Production Inspection (DPI) : On-Process Quality Check (OQC) which is performed when at least 50% of the production is over

  • Expression of Nonconformance : Extent of nonconformance of product that shall be expressed either in terms of percent defective or in terms of defects per hundred units

  • Factory Audit : Qualification of a Factory capability to produce goods and verification its genuineness
  • First-Articles Inspection : Formal method of providing a measurement report for a given manufacturing process. It consists of measuring properties and geometry of a sample item against given specifications

  • GMP Audit : Good manufacturing practices (GMP) Adit has for aim to supervise the practices required to confirm the guidelines recommended by agencies that control authorization and licensing for manufacture and sale of food, drug products, and active pharmaceutical products.

  • Inspection : Involves the measurement, test and gauge applied to certain characteristics in regard to an object or activity. The results are compared to specified requirement and standards to determinate if an item meet them.
  • Inspection by Attribute : Inspection whereby the number of defects in each sample unit is counted with respect to a requirement or set of requirements
  • Inspection Check List : Inspection tool support set up to guide an inspection
  • Inspection Levels : determination of the accuracy which will be use to inspect goods
  • Inspection Protocol : Preliminary draft of a product inspection 
  • ISO : (International Organization for Standardization) International standard settings, adopted by numerous countries.
  • ISO 9001 Audit : Production process and requirements to respect to meet quality management standards
  • ISO TS 16949 Audit : ISO technical specification which is aimed to develop a quality management system that provides for continual improvement, prevention and the reduction of variation and waste in the supply chain
  • ISO 14001 : Standards related to environmental management set up oder to minimize negative impact on environment.

  • Nonconformance : Lack of conformity regarding the purchase order compared to the production
  • Normal Inspection : Sampling plan with an acceptance criterion that has been devised to secure the producer a high probability of acceptance when the process average of the lot is better than the acceptance quality limit

  • Percent DefectiveRatio of defective pieces per lot or sample, expressed as a percentage
  • Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) : Part of Supply chain management. Ensures that the production complies with specifications of the buyer and/or the terms of a purchase order.
  • Pre-Result : Subjectives probabilities of the before a final result

  • Random Sampling : Random item selected from a production to represent the whole production
  • Reduced Inspection : Sampling plan with a sample size that is smaller than that for the corresponding plan for normal inspection
  • Rejection Number : A predetermined number of defective items in a batch which, if not exceeded, requires acceptance of the batch
  • Representative Sampling : Quantity of items which characteristically and statistically represent an entire batch or lot
  • Resubmitted Lots or Batches : Lot or Batch which has been rejected, subjected to either examination or testing, or both for the purpose of removing all defective units which may or may not be reworked or replaced, and submitted again for acceptance

S

  • SA 8000 Audit : Auditable certification standard which submit a process to develop, maintain, and apply ethical social practices in companies.
  • Sample : In Quality Inspection vocabulary, statistic number of item selected to represent the whole production. 
  • Sampling Plans : Method which detailed the measure, materials, manner that will be use to draw and inspect a sample
  • Severity of Inspection : Total amount, kind and extent of inspection specified by the quality assurance provisions established for the unit of product, or as dictated by quality history
  • Single Sample Plan : One sample of items selected at random from a lot and the disposition of the lot to determined the resulting information

  • Tightened Inspection : sampling plan with an acceptance criterion that is tighter than that for the corresponding plan for normal inspection
